The big one...

Dampier, Eschemeyer, and Dickau for Najera, Laettner, two 1st rounders, and cash.

Dallas is in the hunt for a title, this year!

Lower half seeding? Yea right. Top three team now. hey addressed their main issue. They didn't lose alot.

Well, the deal isn't official, and won't be until Spetember 20th or so it looks like because of a two month rule on trading players. Still, the teams agreed. That's good enough for me.

We may be able to do something with our center rotation this year. I wish we could have gotten rid of Bradley instead of either Najera or Laettner though. Is Dampier worth two 1st round draft picks though?

I have to admit, I was disappointed that Najera was leaving. But then again, we didn't really lose anything major. Najera has had health issues, even though he's energy in a mexican can. Laettner was going to stay either. The two first rounders are fine. We already have our future nucleaus of Harris, Daniels, Howard, Dirk, and hopefully, eventually Podkolzine. I mean, in 3 years, when Dirk is in his prime, that team will be awesome! Not only that, but with a true center down low, the Mavs are instantly a title contender RIGHT NOW! Dampier will tide us over until Pavel develops, and he'll give us at least 3 years of an open window.

I think it's a brilliant move. Their window of opportunity will be open for the next 6 years or so, barring any injuries.

It does mean though that the Mavs will be a bit more of a half-court team. If Nelson can do something this year...I'll be happy.

I like the trade. 1st round picks aren't that valuable since we pick so late, and Najera, as much as he is a fan favorite, became expendable one Howard arrived. Howard can play good defense, and is a better shooter. Plus Najera was too short to be a true center so his best value was as a forward. Laettner was gone anyway. For what we give up, we get a legit center in return. It may not work, but it's certainly a good thing to try.

The thing that really sucks is Stack ... we did all that trading to get Shaq and it got us no where. But maybe he'll be the next Jamison off the bench ... the next 6th man of the year.

If I remember correctly, in the late 90s the Suns had back to back years where Rodney Rogers and Shaun Marion won the 6th man of the year honors. Someone check my trivia, as I do not have time.
